Living in Cambridge means you’ll probably do more exercise than most people in the Uk as cycling around the city is by far the quickest and easiest way to get around. If you want to some tips on how to get around Cambridge safely on a bike jump over here. However, if you’re wanting to get some fresh air and improve your fitness then probably one of the easiest things to go is to grab your trainers and head out the door for a run.

Below is a great 7km ish run which we love as it gets you out of the city and experiencing some of the surrounding countryside. Although if you’re looking to add on a few kilometres then it’s really quite easy to do so by adding additional sections as you start or finish in the city.

Starting at the corner of Trumpington Rd and Brooklands Avenue head along Vicars Brook, past Hodson’s Folly, up to the top corner of Lammas land. Even though this takes you off the main streets in can still be quite busy and from the spring onwards you more than likely be comforted by a few cows.

As you reach the top left-hand corner of Lammas land turn left into Grantchester Street and into Newnham Village along the pavement, fork off to the right following Grantchester Meadows down towards the river behind Pembrook College sports Grounds and away for the roads and traffic.

As you enter Grantchester Meadows the scenery will change and you’re more than likely to find people relaxing by the river, walking dogs, and just like Lammas Land the famous Cambridge cows.

Following the path all the way towards Grantchester which looks down towards the river, head past the back of the Green Man pub in Grantchester then as you reach the end of the public footpath you'll have a sharp left which brings you on the path along the Mill Way.

Follow the road around the back of the orchard Tea rooms and onto the Grantchester Rd, but don’t forget to look to your left as you’ll have a view you won’t want to miss as you cross the bridge.

Take the Grantchester Road which runs slightly uphill towards Trumpington and Anstey Hall. Take church lane on your left all the way to Trumpington High Street. Once onto the Thumpington Rd, you have your last flat straight 2km back to the start point a perfect opportunity to finish strong.

We’d love to know where you’d go to run in Cambridge, equally if you want to know more about other activities, sports and events going on in Cambridge then just let us know by posting in the comments.
